SUMMARY:Super Waterfowl Sunday and Soup and Chili Fest Afterwards With Naturalist Gerald Winegrad
DESCRIPTION:Sunday\, February 18\, 2024 at 12 noon-3:15 p.m.\nMeet at 1328 Washington Drive and We Will Carpool\nEver wonder what kind of duck you just saw around Oyster Harbor? Or where can we see beautiful and graceful Tundra Swans? Or where did the ducks\, geese and swans come from? Or what kind of bird is that in the tree? \nWell\, here is your chance to find out: Join Oyster Harbor’s resident wildlife expert and former State Senator Gerald Winegrad on a tour of the area to locate and identify ducks\, geese\, swans\, mergansers\, and other waterfowl as well as land birds. Gerald has led these trips for decades for the Anne Arundel Bird Club. The waterfowl are migratory (except resident Mallards and Canada Geese) and come from the north to winter here in Bay Country. \nIn order to know how many folks are coming on the birding trip and soup and chili at Carol and Gerald’s afterwards\, you must RSVP if you are attending and be specific as to whether attending the birding part and the feast afterwards or just the birding at: gwwabc@comcast.net \nIf anyone has a van\, bring it as carpooling is essential since we will park on some private driveways to access waterfowl to gain close-up views—bring your cameras if you wish. \nWe should have good views of majestic Tundra Swans along with Canvasbacks and can usually find 40 species of birds. These include Buffleheads\, Ruddy Ducks\, Black Ducks\, Scaups\, and Bald Eagles (one year six of them). It’s a great opportunity to learn waterfowl species and other birds you may be seeing. \nThere’s not much walking\, and although we travel in cars\, we are outside most of the time. So\, you must wear warm clothing including hats and gloves. Dress in layers and in case it warms up\, you can always peel off heavier clothing. \nIf you have binoculars\, you should bring them and if not\, try to borrow a pair. Gerald will have extra pairs. \nPlease RSVP to Gerald if you are coming and how many: gwwabc@comcast.net
