NOTICE OF OYSTER HARBOR COMMUNITY ELECTIONS AND HOW YOU CAN SERVE OUR WONDERFUL  COMMUNITY

In accordance with the Oyster Harbor Citizens Association (OHCA) Constitution, the annual election meeting will be held on Tuesday, September 27th at 7:00 p.m. with registration beginning at 6:30 p.m. at the Eastport Fire Station, 914 Bay Ridge Avenue, Annapolis, MD 21403.

We urge you to mark the date on your calendar and plan to get out and VOTE! Remember, each Oyster Harbor property owner and spouse is entitled to vote and you can help our Community function well by attending this meeting and voting.

This year, there are five open positions on the Board of Directors.  The OHCA Board of Directors is responsible for formulating the budget and controlling and formulating all policies related to community owned properties, including the roads, beaches, piers, playgrounds, and other common areas.

And, all Officer positions are open each year (all serve 1-year terms).  The Officer positions are President, Vice-President, Recording Secretary, Corresponding Secretary, Treasurer/Financial Secretary, and Special Tax Treasurer.

Please see the Constitutionally mandated duties of each Board member and Officer that are attached. Officers Duties, Board of Directors Duties

Our Community is an Anne Arundel County Special Taxing District so we are all paying a special tax on our property tax bill to cover the costs of maintaining and running our Community. The Board members and Officers oversee the expenditure of these funds and it is vital that we elect committed and dedicated members to these positions.

If you are interested in running for a seat on the Board of Directors or as an Officer, we encourage you to send in your Bio with your email and phone number and select the position you want to run for—either the Board or one of the specific offices listed. Please email or call  the Chairman of the OHCA Nominating Committee or one of the other four Committee members listed at the end of this message.

We need to hear from you before August 21.

The Nominating Committee, consisting of five members appointed by the President,  is the vehicle established by the OHCA Constitution to consider and nominate a person for each open Board and officer position at the annual meeting. The Pro-tem election meeting chair runs the annual meeting and calls for the report of the Nominating Committee. The Committee presents it to the membership in attendance.

Additional nominations for any of the open offices, if there are any, are then called for from the floor. If nominated from the floor, the nominee must be present, have the nomination seconded, and accept the nomination.  Their name is then written in on the paper ballot.

This is how our Community’s elections under the Constitution have been run since Oyster Harbor’s inception 71 years ago.

We on the Nominating Committee look forward to your participation in this important process and to seeing you on September 27.

And, please note that in addition to elected positions, there are many other opportunities to help serve our beloved community by volunteering on one of the many committees appointed by the President. Please contact us if you wish to volunteer for any of these Oyster Harbor Committees and we will pass your name on:

1) Beach; 2) Community Property; 3)Roads and Drainage; 4) Benevolence;

5) Social; 6) Piers & Harbors; 7) Green; and 8) Security.

Respectfully Submitted by Your OHCA Nominating Committee:
