Safety and Security

Security Alert

The week of June 26 a house was burglarized and two large flat screen television sets were stolen. There were no signs of forced entry. There may have been a key under the door mat. Then, over the weekend, a child's brand new bike was stolen when it was literally propped up by an SUV for loading.

Both of these incidents happened on Washington Drive.

Please be alert and do not take safety for granted. And, never leave a key to your house where criminals can find it.

If you suspect anything, please call the police at 911. The police would rather respond to a suspicion of something wrong than to a crime investigation after it happens. Don't hesitate!

We've have repeated reports of suspicious activity in our neighborhood and to keep our neighborhood save everybody needs to be on alert. Don’t Hesitate to Call 911!

Oyster Harbor contracts with off-duty Federal or County police officers in unmarked cars who patrol our streets on a regular basis during the night. By dialing 911, the patrolling officer will be contacted in his car to reply to the call.

During the day, Anne Arundel County police will handle any calls to 911. Don’t hesitate. Don’t be concerned about “bothering” the authorities. They are there to check out any concerns. Better safe than sorry.

Your "gut" will usually warn you if something just doesn't look right. One of our neighbors has seen unfamiliar cars driving slowly through the neighborhood. Are they just looking for an address or are they checking out our neighborhood for easy targets?

Another neighbor saw some suspicious activity recently around sundown on Shore Drive. One car stopped and was met by a pedestrian. Something was apparently exchanged between the car occupants and the man on foot and then the meeting was concluded. Was this a drug deal?

And there was a home invasion crime on Howard Road in September. The victim was apparently followed home by a criminal who felt she was an easy target.

Don't think it can't happen to you. Be alert and aware and call the police if you have any doubts or "gut feelings" about something you see or hear.

Our community association is beefing up patrols but every one of us has to have our eyes and ears open.
