Anne Arundel County serves Oyster Harbor with sewer maintenance and trash and recycling collection. The Anne Arundel County Police and Fire handles public safety issues. Construction permits are handled by Anne Arundel County, however, since all of our community is within the critical environmental area, the Maryland Department of the Environment and US Corps of Engineers may have jurisdictions in certain permitting cases.

Crime

crimeTo keep our neighborhood save everybody needs to be aware and alert and willing to report suspicious activity. Don’t Hesitate to Call 911!

Oyster Harbor contracts with off-duty Federal or County police officers in unmarked cars who patrol our streets on a regular basis during the night. By dialing 911, the patrolling officer will be contacted in his car to reply to the call.

During the day, Anne Arundel County police will handle any calls to 911. Don’t hesitate. Don’t be concerned about “bothering” the authorities. They are there to check out any concerns. Better safe than sorry.

Your "gut" will usually warn you if something just doesn't look right. One of our neighbors has seen unfamiliar cars driving slowly through the neighborhood. Are they just looking for an address or are they checking out our neighborhood for easy targets?

Have you seen anything like this: A car stopped on one of our roads and was met by a pedestrian. Something was apparently exchanged between the car occupants and the man on foot and then the meeting was concluded. Was this a drug deal? Sound suspicious? Call 911.

Last year there was a home invasion crime on Howard Road. The victim was apparently followed home by a criminal who felt she was an easy target.

Don't think it can't happen to you. Be alert and aware and call the police if you have any doubts or "gut feelings" about something you see or hear.
