Goodbye snow! Spring is here!

Oyster Harbor Family in the Snow on Howard Road
Just one week after the devastating fire in Oyster Harbor,
neighborhood kids drew posters thanking fire fighters and
police for the work they did that horrible night. The signs
were attached to the fence at the Shore Drive beach so that
the public safety folks could see them as they made their
Santa Run. The fire fighters were very appreciative of the
show of support and for the many dozens of cookies baked
and distributed for the event.
At least 60 kids and adults showed up on December 14 for the event, which was created by the Annapolis Fire Department some years ago to collect toys for needy kids. Festively decorated fire engines each complete with a real, live Santa, make runs in many Annapolis area. Several big bags of toys were collected at the Oyster Harbor stop.
The fire fighters were genuinely moved by the kids’ signs and the thanks they received from them and their parents. They were especially moved by a beautiful poster signed by Leah Jaicks as “the girl whose house burned down.” The Jaicks were there with presents for needy kids as well. See the December 21 “My Time” section of The Capital for a nice story on this.
Given the fact that Santa Run took place just a few yards from the location of the tragic fire, it was a very good start toward bringing this community together in a very positive way and to bring the affected families some holiday cheer.
