Committee Report: Community Property/Compliance
August 24, 2011 Committee Minutes
Attending: Bob Eyster, David Wood, Kim Boris, Jo Burkholder
Old Business:
- Mowing – Jose and his crew seem to be doing a better job on mowing all the right of ways. We’ll continue to monitor it weekly and contact him as needed. The Harbor lot play area was weeded and mulch turned over. It looks good.
- Lights in Fishing Creek Park – Claire informed Jo that the lights in the park that are cycling on and off are on a BGE pole. She put in a work order, BGE will look at them.
- Tree trimming – Brian Callahan trimmed trees on the Harbor Lot and in Fishing Creek Park. Brian is easy to work with, economical and does professional work. We are pleased with his service and would not hesitate to do business with him again if tree trimming or removal is needed.
- Tall grass at 3319 – the grass was mowed fairly soon after Claire contacted the owner. We will keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn’t get tall again.
New Business:
- Harbor Lot – Bob has suggested to the Board that we pave an apron area on the Harbor Lot driveway to prevent people from driving into the gravel when two cars are passing. It will also help prevent the pipes from being smashed and the gravel from being dislocated. Bob did report that someone suggested paving the whole lot and putting in a basketball hoop. The majority on our committee were not in favor due to using parking spaces and sharing parking/shared use issues. Jo likes the idea to give the older kids a place to play but does understand the concern that it could turn into a hang out area and kids might be there at hours that are unacceptable to neighbors.
- No mow zone – Kim explained the “No Mow Zone” project that she is doing in conjunction with AACo and the Watershed Academy. If that project moves along smoothly the native planting in Fishing Creek Park will also begin that day. If the No Mow Zone takes longer than expected, the FCP native planting will be on Sept. 24. Planting will also be taking place on Shore Dr.
Next meeting - TBA
July 20, 2011 Committee Minutes
Attending: Bob Eyster, David Wood, Kim Boris, Jo Burkholder
Old Business:
- Bat houses – Both are installed. Bob will remove the braces from the bottoms.
- Picnic tables – We will meet at the Harbor Lot tomorrow morning at 9:30 to move the picnic tables to a shady area at the back of the lot. Families are picnicking there and have been sitting in the grass because that is where the shade is.
- The tree debris on the Harbor lot was removed but there are still branches throughout the tree line. We will ask Jose or Brian Callahan to remove.
- Two dead trees – Jo has contacted Brian Callahan to get an estimate on trimming two trees. One is on the Harbor Lot and one is in Fishing Creek Park. The tree along the path to the dock entrance at Fishing Creek Park also needs trimmed.
- Landscape contract – Jo has been in contact with Jose in regard to the weekly maintenance. Arundel on the Bay has been mowed the past two weeks.
- Dumpsters – the weekend dumpsters were monitored by Kathy Shaffer. Everything in the lot is cleaned up.
- Dangerous, abandoned house – The house in question has had the pool drained and minor actions taken to begin cleaning it up. Claire and Bea were instrumental in getting this to happen.
- Grants – Kim is trying to compile a list of hot spots to compare with Natl Fish and Wildlife and Biohabitats. She is looking into a grant that would be contracted between the two companies. She also has fall planting scheduled for Fishing Creek Park and monies from the Watershed Academy for the area around the pump station at the entrance to the community.
New Business:
- Lights in Fishing Creek Park – Jo noticed that the lights cycle on and off all night. They are not constant and sometimes are both dark at the same time. Will contact Claire/Walt to begin to possibly find a solution.
- Tall Grass – Jo will contact Claire about the tall grass on the property at 3319 Arundel on the Bay Road.
Next meeting – Tentatively planned for Wednesday, August 24th, 7:30 p.m. at Jo’s house.
June 14, 2011 Committee Meeting Minutes
Attending: Bob Eyster, David Wood, Kim Boris, Jo Burkholder
Old Business:
- Martin house and bat houses – we set a date to install both the bat houses and the martin house on Friday, June 17. We will meet at David’s house at 9:30. One bat house will be installed in Fishing Creek Park, one on the Harbor lot and the Martin house at the beach. David gave me receipts for paint, hardware and wood. Jo will submit to Claire for payment.
New Business:
- Dumpster – Claire sent out an email that the Board decided to obtain a dumpster because residents were asking when they would be in OH. We discussed that if it is just one dumpster, residents will more than likely pile their trash behind it when it is full. Typically we have someone who calls the dumpster co. to have them swapped out as they get full. If there is only one dumpster, there should be a plan in place to clean up if needed after it is removed. Also, will it be advertised, how far in advance, will residents know about it, etc? Our general thought was that if we are going to do it, we may as well order as many as needed and not limit it to one. At this point, it is being handled by Claire and our committee is not in charge. It was also reported that the funds will come from the Piers and Harbor acct?
- Tree debris – a small tree fell during the storm this past week. The resident whose property it was on called Jo. Jo removed the debris from her yard and piled it on the Harbor Lot. She will call Jose to have it removed. No other damage was reported on community property.
- OHCA Pool – Jo was emailed by a resident in regard to our thoughts on a community pool. She stated that a bunch of the moms in OH have been discussing it at the beach and feel it would be a great addition to OH. Jo replied back that the funds were probably not available due to swales, roads, and bulkhead improvements. Also, OHCA cannot purchase land to put a pool/clubhouse on, and we probably do not have the space otherwise. The committee discussed liability issues, cost and lack of interest to change the rules for OH to purchase property. The homeowner who brought it up was going to perhaps form a group of the other residents and bring it forward at a community meeting.
- Abandoned property on Washington and dead tree – A resident phoned and emailed Jo this week in regard to the abandoned house/inground pool on Washington. He inquired as to whether or not we can remove a tree from the property. Jo replied that we do not remove trees from private property. He is also concerned about the safety issues surrounding the property. Claire is going to try to contact the pertinent county offices to see what can be done.
- Floating docks/new slips – Eric Epstein spoke with Jo in regard to the proposed new floating docks and slip spaces on Washington and FCP. Our committee discussed and we have no objection to his proposal and feel it can definitely be an added asset to the community.
- Landscape contract – Robin Gilliam contacted Jo in regard to the Cross Rd pet waste station and the growing tall grass around it. Jo contacted Jose to reinforce the need to trip/mow the entire area. Jo also reminded Jose that all the swales/ROW throughout the community need to be trimmed. Last weeks cutting looked better. Jo will keep an eye on their performance going forward through the summer. Bob stated that a utility pole at 1264 A Creek isn’t being trimmed. Jo will let Jose know about it.
- Grants – Kim has been in contact with the Nat’l Fish and Wildlife Commission in regard to the possibility of receiving grant funds for projects and to help clean up our waterways. It will be a long involved process but she was confident that it would be a good project and their support system is one to help people move through the grant process with timelines and aid in the grant process.
Next meeting, Tuesday, July 19, 7:30 pm, David’s house.
April 12, 2011 Committee
Meeting Minutes
Attending: Bob Eyster, David Wood, Jo Burkholder
Old Business:
- Tree trimming – Brian Callahan has completed the tree trimming and we were very satisfied with the results, the price and working with him. Thanks to Kim and David for handling the bulk of this project.
- Purple Martin and Bat Houses – David has constructed all three houses and has painted the bat houses. We now need to organize a date to install all three. We will need to purchase 16’ treated 4x4’s at Johnson’s Lumber along with various hardware pieces to install. A truck will be needed to haul the lumber. The bat houses will be installed in Fishing Creek Park and the Harbor Lot. Martin house on the beach. Kim knows the appropriate locations for installations. We will set a date that is acceptable to all and DIY the project to complete.
- Signs for playground – three “Caution – children playing” signs have been installed by Signs By Tomorrow. One on Creek, two on Harbor.
- Pet Waste Bags – more pet waste bags were requested by Robin. She also wanted me to try to find a bag more like the old blue bags that are no longer carried by UpBeat. I ordered 3 cases. Robin does like them better. She will get back to me if that changes. I will order 1 case of the Mutt Mits for Bob and have them shipped to his house for refills on the Harbor Lot. Thanks to both Bob and Robin for keeping the waste stations filled.
New Business:
- Bob reported that the pipe that goes under the entrance to the Harbor Lot has been flattened on both ends, especially the end nearest Harbor. When it rains the area is getting flooded because it takes a long time to drain. I will investigate to see if Tom Carrol can perhaps cut away either end to open the pipe ends for better flow. If we do get them opened up we will put some cheap reflectors at them to make trucks aware that they are there.
- Our projects are winding down. We are thinking if there are any major projects we would like to propose for next year. Right now we do not have anything big on the calendar. It was mentioned that we passed off the floating dock request on Washington to Piers and Harbors and no one really took that and ran with it. Since we have had 2 different Piers leaders recently, I will contact the current chair and let him know what the residents requests were.
Next meeting – June 14, 2011, 7:30 pm, Jo’s house
March 15, 2011 Committee Meeting Minutes
Attending: Bob Eyster, David Wood, Kim Boris, Jo Burkholder
Old Business:
- Tree trimming – Brian Callahan has been hired to do the tree trimming. Kim and Jo have contacted all homeowners who have property located where trees will be trimmed to give them notice. A spread sheet with all data has been emailed to Brian for an update on price quote and to set a date to do work. Thanks to Kim and David for all their help on this.
- Landscaping bids – Jose has been retained to continue doing the landscaping services throughout the community.
- Signs for playground – three signs have been purchased and they should be installed this week. The placement locations have been flagged and Miss Utility has deemed them all clear from underground hazards. The signs are basic reflective yellow with black print “Caution – children playing”
- BG&E – BG&E has been trimming trees throughout the community. As per their letter it is part of their regularly scheduled maintenance.
New Business:
- Dumpsters – We discussed the dates for the AACo community dumpster program. This year they will be here 10/31 – 11/2/11. Last year we talked about promoting the county’s free bulk pick up more. We decided that we would forego the OHCA dumpsters to try and utilize the county dumpster program more. We paid for dumpsters the last few years and the dumpsters we paid for were always used more heavily than the county ones. They are coming very late in the year, 2011 but, instead of paying for dumpsters ourselves we suggest putting links on the website and more info on bulk pickup in the newsletters. We pay taxes to the county and should utilize these programs more.
- Bat houses and purple martin house – David researched bat houses and purple martin houses. We decided on a simple yet well constructed bat house from a reputable company. Jo will order 2. One for the Harbor lot and one for Fishing Creek Park. We also decided on a purple martin house for the beach. Jo will order the house and a telescoping pole. It will be installed at the beach. Installation for all three is DIY with members of our committee.
Next meeting – TBA for April, 7:30 pm, David’s house.
February 10, 2011 Committee Meeting Minutes
Attending: Bob Eyster, David Wood, Kim Boris, Jo Burkholder
Old Business:
- Tree trimming – David gathered three estimates for the tree trimming project. Severn did not include stump grinding. With that exception, all three companies (Severn, subcontracting by D&D, Bartlett Tree Service and Brian Callahan Tree Service) were offering the same services. Pricing varied from a high of $3,800 to a low of $1,500. Kim Boris told us that Brian Callahan, the lowest bid at $1,500. was recommended by other homeowners who have used his services and were pleased. We unanimously decided to hire Brian. David was asked to contact him in regard to possible start dates, another drive around the community with Kim and David, and to make sure he is bonded and licensed. Kim also mentioned that we will plant new shrubs in place of any trees that are removed.
- Landscaping bids – We discussed the three landscaping bids that were obtained. Jams did not give as many services for the money as ASDC (no tree trimming/pruning or fertilizing). ASDC did not specify what beach cleaning entailed. This would need to be clarified if we hired them. Neither ASDC or Jams included leaf removal from all swales, they only specified removal from common areas and beds. This would also need to be clarified before hiring. We don’t have a $/man hour for either company. We also discussed at length Jose’s pricing. If we kept Jose and only had him perform what is contracted, he would be in the same price range as the other two companies. It seems we rely on him quite a bit for random projects, thus we end up paying him a considerable amount more than the contract price. We questioned whether or not the same thing would happen with the other companies, and, if the other companies would be willing or able to perform those duties. Also, at what cost? We also discussed trying, as a committee, to cut back on what we hired him to do and try to involve the community on the projects instead. Just to adopt an attitude of we can do that on our own instead of paying someone to do it. Bob mentioned that hiring the cheapest option in the past has not always been the best option (ie. paving). We all questioned whether or not we would get the prompt personal service we get with Jose. We also discussed that our community has some unique properties to it and, even though Jose has been with us a while, they still don’t always get it right but, when we call him and report it, he resolves the issues immediately. We all decided unanimously that we would like to retain Jose’s (LB Landscaping’s) services. He is easy to work with, very prompt and does a good job. And, in attempt to keep prices down, we will make an effort to do more DIY projects within our committee.
Next meeting – March 15, 7:30 pm, Jo’s house.
December 15, 2011 Committee Meeting Minutes
Attending: Bob Eyster, David Wood, Jo Burkholder, Kim Boris
Old Business:
- Tree trimming – David drove through the community with BGE representative. BGE man told David that they trim every 4 years and most of our power lines are clear or branches. None pose an immediate threat. David also spoke with Bartlett Tree Service. He should have a bid from them soon. We will try to obtain one more bid and present to the Board.
- Jo mailed Stan Speaks Tree Service a letter indicating that we will not be needing their professional services right now but that we would like a final invoice for the three small trees they removed from the Harbor Lot and never billed us for. The letter asked him to send an invoice to the OHCA PO Box asap.
- The committee reviewed the proposed budget amounts for FY 2012
- Jo had keys made for the community shed. Gave one back to Bob and David. OHCA Manager also holds a key in the office.
- Signs – Jo spoke with SBT and they were a bit backed up. Will pick the project back up after the new year and obtain a quote.
- Plants for playground – Kim said that the planting at the beach was very successful. She will research and plant the Harbor Lot in the spring.
- Doggie Waste Stations – update from Robin G. is that the stations are staying filled and they have enough replacement bags for a couple months.
New Business:
- Speed humps – we discussed the new speed humps and perhaps a need to paint them or put up signs to make people aware of them. Jo will email Kathy and Brooke just to let them know we discussed it.
- Jo will let Jose know that there is a pallet on the Harbor Lot that needs removed.
- Discussed the pallet walkway/bridge that has been placed on the Harbor Lot.
- Holiday lights – Jo told the group that new holiday lights were purchased because the old ones were not working.
- Regretfully, Kathy Kinney has resigned from our group. She is now busy with Board meetings and family. We will miss her presence and opinions.
- Need to brainstorm for any new projects or needs for 2011
Next meeting TBD – will be in February, no meeting in January.
November 2, 2011 Committee Meeting Minutes
Attending: Bob Eyster, David Wood, Jo Burkholder, Kathy Shaffer
Old Business:
- Tree trimming update – David is working on getting a new bid. Drove around community to access all trees and power lines.
- Jose – followed up with mowing and leaf removal. This past week the crew did a great job and cleared all the areas they are contracted to clear/mow.
- Doggie waste bags – Robin Gilliam has agreed to be the contact person for filling the doggie waste stations that Jo has been filling. Specifically Fishing Creek Park, Washington Dr. and Howard. Robin will keep the bag stock and new shipments will be sent directly to her home. Jo will still be the order person for the bags.
- Harbor lot –
- Opening and party and Halloween parties were successful.
- The mats have been ordered, have not arrived yet. The bike rack and picnic tables have been delivered and are onsite as well as a lost and found box.
- There is $185.60 remaining of the $20K budget for the play area. This will be used by Kim for landscaping items.
- Signs – We discussed the need for Children at Play signs to be posted along Creek and Harbor as well as no dogs on play surface signs. Jo will follow up with bids and sign choices.
- Bird/bat houses – David is working with Kim on the Green committee to put a bat house on the lot. Educational signs were discussed to give people a better idea of why the bat houses are used.
New business:
We discussed the need for a couple lights on the Harbor Play area for parties or picnics that would be held in the evening. Right now we decided that it was just something to think about and discuss later if we see a need.
Bob requested that Jo draft a budget proposal for the Board by early December.
Next meeting – Jo’s house, December 7, 2010, 7:30 pm
Special Report - New Harbor Road Lot
The Property Committee has been busy the past few months! We thank them for all their work and effort in making the new Harbor Lot Playground a reality! Hopefully you were able to attend the opening party on October 23rd to celebrate this wonderful new amenity to the community. If you haven’t stopped by yet with the kids, plan an outing for an afternoon. There are picnic tables to enjoy lunch and a bike rack is available if you plan to ride over. Thank you to the Green Committee for their plantings at the playground and making the area look beautiful. If you choose to bring your four-legged family members to the park, please use the doggie waste station located on the corner to pick up after them.
October 5, 2010 Committee Meeting Minutes
Attending: Bob Eyster, David Wood, Jo Burkholder, Kathy Shaffer, Kim Boris, Brooke Doswell
Old Business:
Harbor Lot Play Area
- Discussed an “opening” party for the play lot. Thinking something small for parents and children. Cider, cookies, small “prizes”, face painting, balloons for decoration. Will contact social committee to see if they can help. Date set for Oct. 23, 11-1pm. Jo and Kathy will coordinate on drinks/snacks/prizes. Jo will ask Tenika Jones if she’d be willing to face paint or do manicures for kids.
- Suggestion of a lost and found box to place in play area as children have already left a few items behind. Jo will look for a large plastic container with lid.
- Another suggestion of a bike rack to be placed in the lot for the kids who ride bike to the play area. We don’t want anyone tripping over bikes. Jo will look at options and order.
- Bob noticed that under the swing area it is already getting rutted. Jo will check AAA website for mat to go under area. Vic said they are available.
- Discussed landscaping – Kim and Bob will decide on moving the three small shrubs that were newly planted. The one closest to the play perimeter will definitely be moved. They will decide on moving the other two. Closeness to the shed might be an issue as they grow. Kim will look for options on landscaping around the play area. We all liked the idea of tall grasses and Bob suggested a butterfly bush which we also all liked.
- Read a nice letter from AAA State of Play. They were great to work with and will be added to our vendor list.
- Discussed the need for some type of fencing around the play area or the lot. We all felt that there isn’t a precedent for fencing. It would look like the kids were being corralled in. And, it might be dangerous for them not to have an easy way to run out of the way if they are playing and get too close to the swings. It was mentioned that all the houses on AOTB Rd. have a natural border with the buffer of trees between the lot and their lots.
- Picnic tables – we discussed recycled plastic and treated wood tables. Jo will order 2 treated wood tables from Backyard Billy’s. The price is better and we agreed they are durable enough for what we are using them for.
- Signage – discussed putting up signs for pets and safety but all agreed that we’d rather not put any up. We want the park to be inviting. If we see trouble in the future we will revisit putting up signs.
- Paint – Kathy Shaffer was given touch up paint for the play equipment. She will keep it at her house. If anyone notices areas that need to be touched up, call Kathy for the paint.
Tree Trimming
- Jo has tried to work with Bobby’s Tree Service and they just aren’t coming through. Kim has another contact, who will work with D&D Tree Service to hopefully get the trees that need removed and trimmed underway. Kim and David will meet, go over what trees need attention and David will work with the vendors. Right now we have three trees that need removed on Cross (small trees), vines that need removed at same area, a tree on creek that needs trimmed or removed. Kim and David will go through the community to check if any more should be added to the list.
- Bobby’s Tree Service never billed us for the small trees on the Harbor Lot that they trimmed/removed.
Jose
- Jo contacted Jose after the last meeting and told him areas that needed attention and that his guys might be neglecting. He said he would address it with them. Bob still isn’t seeing any maintenance on Creek Dr. Jo will follow up with Jose again.
- Jose was asked to clean up in front of the beach entrance on Shore, the end of Shore, and the sandy area at Fishing Creek Marina. He removed the debris from the play lot construction.
- Jo will also let Jose know that there is another trash can on the Harbor Lot that will need to be emptied as needed.
Doggie waste replacement bags have been ordered.
New Business:
Jose
- Bob mentioned that the grassy area where the large mulch pile was dumped for the play area should be raked. Jo will call Jose and have them rake the area and reseed if needed.
Next Meeting TBA
August 18, 2010 Committee Meeting Minutes
Attending: Bob Eyster, David Wood, Jo Burkholder
Old Business:
- Still working on getting a few outstanding trees trimmed on Cross and Creek. Power lines are involved and BGE & Bobby’s need to coordinate dates so BG&E can drop the lines for Bobby’s to cut. Bobby’s are working on it. Due to frequent storms throughout the area they are backed up on emergency work.
- Play area – The OHCA Board has approved $20k for the Harbor Lot play area. This is outstanding news. Jo will phone the AAA State of Play to begin the process of ordering/installation. Thanks to all!
- Pet waste station – Bob reported this month that the waste station on Cross looked like it was not being emptied. I spoke with Jose and he told me that he would remind his guys to empty it along with the other stations.
- Kayak rack, Fishing Creek Park – Clair stated that a resident emailed her about poison ivy around the FCP kayak racks. Jo checked them out and didn’t see any poison. Jose has been contacted the clear any if present. Same resident also made us aware that a few kayaks are unmarked, no OHCA dingy stickers. Jo will put a kind reminder on those boats that they need to contact Claire for a sticker or remove the boat. Since putting in the racks and using the stickers the area has remained neat and orderly.
New Business:
- Only one item on this list for the moment – Jo noticed that some of the right of ways might be being missed by Jose and his grass cutting crew. Overall they seem to be doing a decent job with no complaints to Jo by community members but, Jo is going to remind him that they need to be cutting and trimming right of way throughout the community. Most noticeably, today, the corner of Ellis and AOTB. Bob mentioned that they do not go the whole way to the end of Creek. Jose will be notified.
Next meeting – Tuesday, September 21, 7:30 pm at David Wood’s house.
July 14, 2010 Committee Meeting Minutes
Attending: Kathy Shaffer, Bob Eyster, Kim Boris, Jo Burkholder, David Wood
Old business:
- New sub committee – The Green Committee has been officially added as a subcommittee to the Community Property Committee. Kim Boris is committee chair and the group has a $5,000 operating budget.
- Vendor List – the vendor list has been completed by Kathy. Kathy will forward the list to members and to Clair (OHCA Manager). From that point, any vendors that we use and have comments on can be added to the list by emailing the manager. We will also recommend that the manager request the same info from other committees so we can compile a nice working list.
- Tree trimming – the tree trimming is moving forward. Bobby’s will remove two more trees on the Harbor Lot this weekend as well as the wood that hasn’t been removed from the large tree. Jo submitted the invoice for the large tree to the manager. Bobby’s will invoice the remaining trees when they are finished. Cross Rd. also has three trees that Bobby’s recommended removing. They are small trees. Total cost for all five trees (2 on Harbor/3 on Cross) will be $950. Jo will phone BG&E to request that they trim back the trees at least 3’ from overhead power line so that Bobby’s can then safely remove the trees. Kim and the Green Committee will research replacement shrubs or plants for the area.
- Play area proposal – Jo has drawn up a final draft of the playground proposal which includes 3 competing bids. AAA State of Play was the preferred vendor. Committee agreed, after review, that the proposal should be submitted. Bob suggested we separate the items that will be ordered at a later date. Jo will correct and email board members with final documents for review and vote.
- Doggie waste bags – update from UpBeat, Inc. Jo phoned to find out why the replacements bags haven’t been received. UpBeat stated that their vendor was out of stock. They are back in stock and we should receive them in 2 to 3 weeks. Invoicing to OHCA will be done at time of shipping.
- AACo dumpsters – the county dumpsters will be on the Harbor Lot July 30-31. Jo will email the Board and Calvin to advise the contractors who have been parking their heavy equipment on the lot that they will not be able to park there during those days. The county will need the space for the roll off trucks.
Next meeting – Wednesday, August 18th, Jo’s house.
June 16, 2010 Committee Meeting Minutes
Attending: Kathy Shaffer, Bob Eyster, Kim Boris, David Wood, Jo Burkholder
Old business:
- We discussed the addition of the Green Committee as a subcommittee with the property committee. We are all in agreement that it is a good idea and will welcome working with Kim and her committee members. Kathy Burk will be bringing this to the attention of the Board at an upcoming Board meeting.
- Landscape cleanup – finished. Jose cleaned out the area behind the shed on the Harbor lot. That was the last bit we had unresolved and complete.
- Doggie waste station – The waste station on Cross was installed by Bob and David. Bob has the replacement bags/key for the station on Harbor and will have the bags/key for Cross also. Jose has been informed that the dog station at the end of Cross needs to be emptied. I will check to make sure they are emptying it.
- Vendor list – Kathy is organizing the list. She will then forward to Claire who will be able to add more from other committees.
- Tree removal – the tree on the Harbor lot has been taken down. The stump remains. I will check with Bobby’s to get a date on final removal. Also, Bob noticed three other trees that should be looked at. They seem to be dead. Along the tree line on the rear of the lot. He will mark them for Bobby’s. One may be on private property and not OHCA property. If that is the case we will inform the owners (Shaffers)
- Kim has researched replacement trees to replace the large tree on the Harbor lot that was just removed. We are in agreement that a grove of trees to the rear of the lot will be a nice buffer between the house and the lot. Kim will get prices and we will purchase the trees and have them planted.
- Play equipment for Harbor Lot – we reviewed the choices we have for play equipment and looked at photos online. We were in agreement with the type of play structures we want. Jo will type up a proposal. The proposal will include picnic tables, benches, playset, swingset, trashcan, new sign, landscaping and possibly a climber.
New business: We discussed the installation of a half court basketball area, full court basketball area, and a tennis court as an addition to the Harbor Lot. In summation, we all agreed that we didn’t think there was a need for such a large capital expense. Lots of families have basketball nets in their driveways for children to use with supervision. The general feeling was a basketball court could become a potential “hang out” spot and would not have supervision because homes are not close by. While we understand the need for kids/teens to have a place to gather, we do not feel this to be the place. Tennis courts would need full fencing, annual maintenance and again, we are just not sure of the need. PAL park is just down the road with tennis courts and basketball courts. Our committee does not want to drive this agenda. We do not have a member who is willing to take on the task. We feel that the best use of the area at this particular time is a playground area for the younger kids with park hours clearly defined.
May 18, 2010 Committee Meeting Minutes
March 2010 - The property committee is quiet right now. We have a small sign project that is ready for installation (Fire Department emergency drafting sites and some street signs that have been corrected). We also have hired a contractor to construct a kayak rack that will be placed in the Washington Drive Marina parking lot. A new doggie waste station has been requested for Cross drive and will be ordered/installed in the spring.
February 24, 2010 Committee Meeting Minutes
November 2009 - Project Update
Committee Chairperson: Jo Burkholder
The Committee Property Committee met in October and is happy to report that the bollard project has been completed. Bob Eyster will be installing reflective tape on poles for night time visibility. Signs are on order to replace existing signs that have been damaged and/or new signage for the fire department. The Committee is getting quotes for resurfacing the Harbor lot and building a kayak rack at the Washington Marina. Additionally, landscaping projects include replacing dead or non-growing ornamental grasses in various areas and assessing the Harbor Lot and reseeding if necessary. Next meeting – November 5, David Wood’s house, 1314 Harbor Road, 7:30 p.m.
